New York (CNN Business)General Motors and LG plan to build a new $2.3 billion plant to build batteries for electric vehicles, a key step toward the US automaker's goal of an all-electric future.

The new plant, GM's second EV battery operation with LG, will be adjacent to the automaker's Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee, where it announced last fall a $2 billion investment to build electric vehicles.

(CNN)Audi revealed its new Q4 E-Tron electric SUV Wednesday -- the company's cheapest electric model, with a starting price of $45,000.

With US federal electric vehicle tax credits, that means it should effectively cost $37,500 in its least expensive version. That's slightly less than a Tesla Model 3 sedan and much less than a Tesla Model Y SUV. (Tesla vehicles are not currently eligible for federal tax credits.) WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today unveiled two funding opportunities totaling more than $162 million to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions among cars, trucks, and off-road vehicles. The funding will support the next stage of the SuperTruck initiatives—aimed at electrifying freight trucking—along with efforts to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and lower emissions for on- and off-road vehicles.

One of Arizona's largest utility companies will give customers in the Valley a $1,000 rebate if they buy or lease a new electric vehicle from a Valley dealership.

The goal is to lower emissions rates in the Valley.

The SRP "Plug-in and Save" rebate pilot program applies to the purchase or lease of new all-electric or plug-in electric hybrid vehicles only. Hybrid vehicles that don’t plugin will not qualify.
