In August 2020, cumulative U.S. plug-in vehicle sales reached 1.6 million units. Plug-in vehicles consist of both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Cumulative BEV sales reached one million units while cumulative PHEV sales were about 600,000. Since June of 2015, BEV sales have outpaced PHEV sales and for the last year, BEVs accounted for 60% or more of all plug-in vehicle sales.

Dearborn — Ford Motor Co. will build a new, 500,000-square-foot electric vehicle manufacturing operation at the historic Ford Rouge Center, the automaker said Thursday, creating 300 new jobs to support battery assembly and production of hybrid and battery-electric versions of its profit-rich F-150 pick-up truck.

With a 1% increase in sales and increasing battery pack size, all-electric vehicles (EVs) captured a record amount of total plug-in vehicle battery capacity sold in 2019, 17.4 gigawatt-hours. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) accounted for a smaller portion of total plug-in vehicle battery capacity due to their lower sales volumes and because they require smaller battery packs than EVs, since they have gasoline-powered engines to extend total vehicle range. New York (CNN)General Motors and Nikola are teaming up to work on the Nikola Badger, a fully electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric pickup truck.

The partnership gives General Motors (GM) an 11% stake in the startup, receiving $2 billion in equity, the companies said in a news release. GM will also get the right to nominate one director to Nikola's board.
